Questions about creating a path on Photoshop?

Is there an easier way to create a path around an object then just using the pen tool and tracing the shape? Something as simple as the magic wand tool, but with a path perhaps?Questions about creating a path on Photoshop?
You can make a selection, using the magic wand tool, and, under the path menu, convert the selection to a path.





But, the path will have so many points in it that it is almost unusable, it certainly will be jagged and, in places, inaccurate.





Reprographic houses will hate it because it will slow down their rip, clients will hate the finished product because their lovely products have jagged edges, you will hate it when you have to go back and redraw the path.





It is bad practice and marks you down as unprofessional. there are alternatives 鈥?using layer masks, for example.
