What's the difference between photoshop cs3 and Adobe Illustrator?

any help would be great new to this and about to buy my first dslrWhat's the difference between photoshop cs3 and Adobe Illustrator?
Well for a dslr you'd primarily use photoshop. That's intended to be a photo editing program, whilst illustrator is for drawing from scratch.

Illustrator is vector based, so creates images which can be easily re-sized within the program without losing any detail. It will also keep different elements of a drawing separate, so they're easy to move around and alter the shape. Photoshop on the other hand is pixel based, which suits photographs because they are also pixel based.

However, the two programs crossover in many ways -you can draw freehand in photoshop too, you just have to be more aware of the sizes and resolution of the images. You can also add 'effects' to drawings and import photos into illustrator -you just can't edit them quite so well as with photoshop. What's the difference between photoshop cs3 and Adobe Illustrator?
If you want to manipulate images you take on you dslr you will want Photoshop. The difference is, as stated, that Photoshop is intended to work with raster-based images, while Illustrator is intended for working with vector. There is a certain amount of crossover.

%26gt;Illustrator sucks

No it doesn't 鈥?it might be a little difficult to get the hang of, but it does exactly what is required of it.
Illustrator sucks. - it's extremely difficult to use and is no good if you were to want to draw or do digital painting and such. it's only good if you know you to use it from taking a class.

Photoshop can be difficult to use but it is much more versatile.
Well, I find Illustrator a lot easier then Photoshop, but then again that's my opinion. I did A level Graphics and had to design logo's and illustrations on both programs on Mackintosh computers.
Adobe Illustrator is a program that deals with vector images, photoshop-with raster. To roughly put it.
