Is there anyway to cut out a picture with a blurry background without having to use the pen tool on photoshop?

masking works great, what it does is put a mask over the layer you want to change, and then you paint with black on the areas you want to become transparent or cut out, and if you make a mistake or decide you want something in there after all, you just paint it back in with white and it shows up again. once you like what you have you can flatten the image and have it perfectly cut out.Is there anyway to cut out a picture with a blurry background without having to use the pen tool on photoshop?
You can use the extract filter to do it.

you can use the lasso or magnetic lasso tool to select the picture
